BURLESQUE 101 6 WEEK PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP
As seen in the film “A Wink And A Smile“! The famed original six-week workshop culminating in public student graduation recital. Includes
weekly private lesson. Create your very own Burlesque routine! Weekly group classes will be held Mondays from 6-8 pm in the Oddfellows Building on Capitol Hill. Students must be available for one weekly half-hour private session beginning the second week of the session. Course fee includes Six group lessons, Five private lessons, Class 8×10, and a public graduation recital at the West Hall Theatre in the Oddfellows Building. After graduating, there will be a student potluck on where you will watch the video of your performance and decompress with your fellow students. The Summer session, which begins on July 11th, is full. Registration is OPEN for the Fall session, beginning September 11! REGISTER NOW, AS IT WILL FILL!!
BUMP & GRIND DANCE CLASS – Evening
This basic Burlesque dance class teaches the fundamentals of classic Burlesque dance technique. Thursdays 6pm-7:30pm, taught by Ruby Mimosa! Class open to all levels, oriented towards beginning dancers who want a fun workout! Vintage music, fun bump and grind movements, a great starter class! Drop-ins welcome, but advance registration recommended! The next 6 Week session will run from May 16th to July 27th (no class May 30). REGISTER HERE!!! Cost is $85 for the session, or $15 drop-in.
INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED BUMP & GRIND WITH INGA INGENUE
“Int/Adv Bump & Grind” is designed for students who have completed at least two 8-week sessions of Bump & Grind class (or have previous dance/performance experience and have received instructor’s permission to enter class) and are ready to hone their skills and learn more, more, more! Taught by qualified instructor Inga Ingénue, this class will center on mastering complex choreography, improving musicality and grace, and the successfully integration Bump & Grind movement into a burlesque routine while staying true to one’s own personal performance style. Students will be assigned homework, perform in-class presentations, and will learn an original piece of group choreography by Inga Ingénue. This is a great class to take in preparation for Burlesque/Boylesque 101 or 202, if you’ve taken 101/202 and want to hone your dance skills, or if you just want to perfect your shimmy in general! FANTASTIC: A FAN DANCING PRIMERIn this 4 week course, you will work with Indigo Blue and guest instructors to learn the ins and outs. From small fans to extra large Sally Rand feather fans, learn methods and choreography specific to each type, as well as basic fan construction, and embellishment techniques! We have a limited number of fans available for rental if you do not have your own. Rental rate is $10 (used sets) or $40(unused sets) per class. We also have 4 pairs of Sally Rand fans available for purchase at $325! Please contact us ahead of time if you wish them for the first class. We can also place an order if we sell out, however, they take 2-3 weeks to arrive, therefore you will have them by the end of the session. Cost: $100 in advance or $125 day of. PINK LIGHT BURLESQUE is a program founded by The New York School of Burlesque offering FREE classes to breast cancer patients and survivors. The Academy of Burlesque is proud and delighted to partner with the New York School of Burlesque to provide Pink Light Burlesque classes at no cost to breast cancer survivors in the Seattle area! The Pink Light Burlesque classes were created to address the particular needs of women in treatment and recovery, especially women seeking a rock-n-roll way to reclaim their bodies after experiencing a negative body image or a loss of femininity. BOYLESQUE 101 6 WEEK PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP
Learn to create your very own Boylesque routine under the tutelage of gender bending Boylesque sensation, Miss(ter) Waxie Moon and the Man, the Myth, the Mustache, Ernie Von Schmaltz! The same structure as Burlesque 101, but the curriculum is specialized for masculine/other gendered representations that Boylesque can be comprised of. Includes weekly private lesson. Create your very own Boylesque routine! Course fee includes Six group lessons, Five private lessons with Waxie Moon and or Ernie Von Schmaltz, Class 8×10, and a public graduation recital at the West Hall Theatre in the Oddfellows! After graduating, there will be a student potluck where you will watch the video of your performance and decompress with fellow students. This class will be offered in 2013!
BURLESQUE 202
In just 4 weeks, work with your peers to develop your performance skills to a new level and expand your repertoire! Open to active performers who have already taken BQ101 or have performed regularly for 1 year. Full tuition $300 includes instruction & final showing. Advance registration $275 if deposit paid by February 1st. Non-refundable $75 deposit required on this site, goes towards total tuition. The next session begins on July 31st! REGISTER HERE!!!
